Poor Tony. Poor, poor, spoiled Tony. No, really. Tony caused a lot of problems in this play; in fact, he was the source of every other problem. But maybe Tony is misunderstood? I think that maybe he was just a spoiled brat (not necessarily his fault; his mother was a real piece of work) who was bored and wanted to have a little fun. So he told Marlow that the Hardcastle house was an inn. If you think about it, that is really clever! Obviously it caused a lot of problems, but he sort of redeemed himself in the end, right? I don't think he was really all that bad.. and 4 people got some romance out of the deal! I think, moreso than Tony, Mrs. Hardcastle is to blame for everything! After all, she created the monster that is Tony. Thoughts? - mmi-c mmi-c Feb 16, 2008
